Glossary
- Bleed: A printing term that refers to printing that goes beyond the edge of the sheet after trimming.
- CMYK: (Short for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key (black)) is a subtractive color model, used in color printing.
- Embed: Digital fonts store the image of each character by mathematical description of lines and curves called a vector font. When a font is embedded, or an outline font is used, a rasterizing routine renders the character outlines, interpreting the vector instructions. If a vector font is not rasterized and it is unavailable to the printer, the font will not print correctly.
- Font: The term font is often used as a metonym for a typeface, or a coordinated set of letters designed with stylistic unity.
- Greyscale: Composed of shades of neutral gray, varying from black at the weakest intensity to white at the strongest.
- Line Screen (lpi): Lines per inch – The resolution (line screen) of a printing press, which determines how much detail the press (and the paper) can hold.
- Resolution (dpi): Dots per inch (DPI) is a measure of printing or display resolution, in particular the number of individual dots or pixels that can be produced within a linear one-inch (2.54 cm) space
- Pdf: (Portable Document Format) is the file format created by Adobe Systems. The fixed-layout format is used for representing two-dimensional documents in a manner independent of the application software, hardware, and operating system.
